Surgical Care Services at Bellwood Animal Hospital

The surgical staff at Bellwood Animal Hospital takes a complete care approach to provide your pet with the highest standard in veterinary surgery. All of our surgery patients are safely anesthetized and closely monitored by the veterinarian/surgeon and trained technicians. We have state-of-the-art monitoring devices that observe heart rate, pulse, oxygen levels and blood pressure. Pre-anesthetic blood screens are performed to help us manage each case safely. Pre- and post-operative pain management is integral to your pet's recovery and is designed specifically for your pet's procedure and tolerance level.

In addition to our general surgical services, in which we perform spays, neuters, lump and abscess removals and other common surgical procedures, we are able to provide specialized surgical services.

Orthopedic Surgery

We are fortunate to have skilled veterinarians with long standing interests and great skills in some specific orthopedic surgeries. We perform orthopedic procedures that include repair of cranial cruciate ligament tears and luxating patella repair. We also perform select procedures involving the hip and shoulder as well as uncomplicated fracture repairs.

Referral Services

We do refer complex medical and surgical cases, such as cancer treatment and neurosurgery, to specialty veterinarians. If such a referral is necessary, we keep in close contact with the referred veterinarian and stay up-to-date on your pet's treatments and progress. We refer some cases to the University of Wisconsin, Madison, located about 90 minutes away from the hospital. Additionally, we refer some cases to the Veterinary Specialty Center in Buffalo Grove, Illinois.
