Senior Pet Care

Senior Pet Care at Bellwood Animal Hospital

As our pets age, their individual needs change. From finding an appropriate diet to managing common age related conditions, quality veterinary care becomes even more important for your senior pet. Many conditions like arthritis, diabetes, heart problems and cancer can be successfully managed if detected early. Since pets age at a faster rate than humans, we recommend an exam every six (6) months after your pet reaches seven (7) years of age to keep your elderly companion happy and healthy.

Blood profiles and blood pressure monitoring are basic and essential components of geriatric care. Hypertension, the leading cause of blindness, is becoming more of a health risk to pets as they live longer. By having your senior pet's blood pressure monitored every six months, you can help your pet avoid any discomfort or potential problems.
